Sanda Shandu profile

Meet the musical Sanda Shandu

Growing up in Newcastle, there were a wide variety of activities I kept myself busy with: From learning the clarinet to karate lessons!

As a child I enjoyed playing cricket, rugby, soccer and swimming, however it was in tennis that I truly excelled.

I have always been the one among my friends who couldn’t miss the opportunity to make others laugh – and have always enjoyed the attention!

It was that love for the limelight that veered me away from the sports fields and towards the stage. My parents sent me to Cordwalles Preparatory School for Boys in Pietermaritzburg and then to Michaelhouse boarding school. It was at these schools I nurtured my love for the performing arts.

I have a Bachelor of Social Science in Economics and Organisational Psychology degree from the University of Cape Town.

Career highlights include having worked with renowned international director David Leterrier and the well known actors Sascha Baron Cohen and Mark Strong as well as with South Africa’s very own David Kramer in a musical at The Fugard Theatre.

Having lived in Cape Town for five years now, I have become fond of nature and can’t help but enjoy it! In my spare time I still play sports, am getting back to playing piano regularly and enjoy making music with my brother!

Fun fact: Sanda sang in his schools’ choirs as well as the Kwazulu-Natal Youth Choir, played percussions and piano in the Michaelhouse Jazz band and was the chairman for his high school’s toastmasters society.
